Backflow Testing In San Carlos

Backflow testing is required by the State of California and California Water Service . It is done annually to ensure continued safety to the public water supply. If your backflow device is functioning properly and passes testing, the requirements for this year will be complete. If it fails it must be repaired or, if necessary, replaced.

Backflow Repair & Maintenance

Backflow devices have internal parts that open and close, which allows the flow of water. Over time, and depending on the usage of the valve, parts can become worn or damaged. This causes the valve to fail, when tested. The installation of new internal rubber parts in your backflow device will typically correct the problem. Once the repair is complete the valve is tested and certified.

Backflow Replacement

Rust and corrosion along with worn out or non-replaceable parts dictate when replacement of a backflow device is necessary. Typically a backflow device will need to be replaced every 10-12 years. At this time all new regulations and compliance requirements set by California Water Service must be met in the city of San Carlos.

New Backflow Installations

Surveys are performed by California Water Service . and if a backflow is required in San Carlos, California Water Service will notify you. The size of the required backflow is determined by the size of the water meter (ie. a 2" water meter requires a 2" backflow, a 6" water meter requires a 6" backflow, etc.). The location of the device is also determined by the water company. City codes and ordinances vary but it is most common that the backflow device must be located on your property and not within the Public Right of Way. The standards imply that the backflow installation be within 18" of the back of the water meter or the back of the sidewalk. This is to avoid cross connections, which would leave the public water supply unprotected. CA. Assembly Bill 1953 (effective 1-10-2010) requires that all domestic water backflow be lead free. All major manufacturers including Wilkins, Febco, Watts, Ames and Flo-Matic have lead free valve that are USC approved for installation. We will make the correct recommendations for your specific job.
